Call for Applications for a Senior Academic Position in Arts of Islam/ Arabic Art, at the Art History Department, Tel Aviv University
The Department of Art History at Tel Aviv University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in the Arts of Islam /Arabic Art. The anticipated start date for this position is the 2024-2025 academic year, with flexibility to begin in either the winter semester (October 2024) or the spring semester (February 2025) to accommodate the successful candidate's availability.
The Department welcomes applications from art historians whose expertise reside in the Arts of Islam / Arabic Art. We encourage candidates specializing in the field of Arts of Islam / Arabic Art to submit their applications, spanning from ancient periods to the present, including modern and contemporary art. Applicants may focus on specific periods and territories within this broad spectrum. We especially welcome candidates who thrive in an interdisciplinary environment and whose work is informed by comparative and global perspectives. We encourage submissions by researches specializing in Palestinian Art.
Applicants must have earned a PhD in the History of Art or a related field by the date of appointment with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue innovative and independent research at the highest international level and to establish an outstanding research program.
The position includes teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the field of Arts of Islam / Arabic Art. Regular teaching load consists of 16 academic hours per year (8 per semester), as well as other departmental and faculty responsibilities.
Tel Aviv University's primary language of instruction is Hebrew. However, the possibility of teaching one or more advanced courses in English may be accommodated. Candidates whose Hebrew proficiency is such that they would not be comfortable teaching in Hebrew will be encouraged to sufficiently master the language during the initial five years following their appointment.
