Senior Academic Position in the Department of Archaeology and Ancient Near Eastern Cultures

 

The Department of Archaeology and Ancient Near Eastern Cultures at Tel-Aviv University invites applications for a tenure track position in Bronze and Iron Age Archaeology with affinity to research of Mediterranean cultures and an ability to study cultural and historical themes. 

 

The position is open to outstanding researchers with proven knowledge in the archaeology of the Bronze and Iron Ages in the southern Levant and/or other neighboring regions such as Syria, Anatolia, the Aegean world and Cyprus. The candidate should be able to conduct independent research and teach a variety of theoretical and methodological themes. The candidate is expected to contribute to the scholarly discourse and to cooperate in multi-disciplinary universal fields of research such as the growth of complex civilizations and intercultural connections along the eastern shores of the Mediterranean basin.

 

Candidates should have significant field experience and are required to establish and lead a long term archaeological field project within the first three years of the position. It is expected from the candidate to publish in international, leading peer-reviewed journals, to apply for competitive research grants and to be able to teach in the department’s International MA program. Furthermore, the successful candidate should be able to engage with themes of universal significance and to establish interdisciplinary dialog with scholars in the School of Jewish Studies and Archaeology, the Faculty of Humanities and the University, especially regarding cross cultural themes related to the Mediterranean world.  

Teaching in Hebrew (by the beginning of the third year of employment) and English, and conducting independent research in the relevant fields are required.  

The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. from the beginning of the employment.

 

Salary and employment conditions will conform to Tel Aviv University regulations. The appointment procedure will be carried out according to the rules and regulations of Tel Aviv University and are subject to the approval of the University’s authorities. The position will become effective starting from January 2022 and the academic rank will be determined towards the beginning of employment.
