שירן אלטמן בטלר

Shiran Altman-Battler is a Ph.D. candidate in Law at Zvi Meitar Center for Advanced Legal Studies, Tel Aviv University. Her dissertation, titled “Plea Bargaining in International Criminal Law and in International Criminal Tribunals”, is supervised by Prof. Talia Fisher and Prof. Leora Bilsky.

In 2018-2019 Shiran served as Visiting Scholar at the Center for the Study of Law and Society at the University of California, Berkeley.

Shiran obtained her LL.B. in Law (Magna cum Laude) from Buchmann Faculty of Law, Tel Aviv University. During her LL.B. studies, Shiran was a member of the editorial board of “Law, Society and Culture” Law Review, a member of the Human Rights legal clinic and a tutor in the apprenticeship project. Shiran obtained her LL.M in Diplomatic Studies (International Relations) (Summa cum Laude, 1st in class) from Department of Political Science, Tel Aviv University. Her LL.M thesis, titled “Evolution and Revolution: The Legal Status of the Victim in Domestic Criminal Law as an International Norm”, was supervised by Prof. Talia Fisher (Buchmann Faculty of Law) and Dr. Amir Lupovici (Department of Political Science). During her LL.M studies, Shiran was awarded two scholarships for distinctive academic achievements.

Shiran serves as teaching assistant as well as research assistant to Prof. Leora Bilsky in the fields of international criminal law and of transitional justice.

In the recent years, Shiran has served as lecturer in the courses Scientific Writing Instruction and Legal Writing Skills and as teaching assistant in the courses: Introduction to International Relations and Strategy, Legal Ethics and Labor law, both at Tel Aviv University (Buchmann Faculty of Law and the Department of Political Science) and at the College of Law and Business (Ramat Gan). 

In 2014-2015 Shiran was selected as one of the best 100 junior academic lecturers of Tel Aviv University (TAU “100 club” in Teaching Excellency).
