The Department of Art History at Tel Aviv University invites applications for two tenure-track appointments, commencing October 1, 2025. We seek outstanding scholars whose research expertise falls within one or more of the following fields:

  • Early Modern European Art: 14th–18th centuries, with an emphasis on global connections (e.g., the Mediterranean, Atlantic world, and the Americas)
  • Israeli Art: from the late 19th century to contemporary practices
  • Arts of Islam and/or the Arab Worlds: from medieval to contemporary periods, including Palestinian art
  • Arts of Asia: including Chinese art (Song to Qing dynasties) or Indian art (classical to 19th century)

Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary scholarship and historically grounded global perspectives are especially encouraged to apply.

Applicants must hold a PhD in Art History or a closely related field by the time of appointment, and present evidence of excellence in research and teaching. The successful candidates are expected to pursue independent, innovative research at an international level and to contribute meaningfully to the department’s undergraduate and graduate teaching programs.

The job scope is 100%. The regular teaching load includes 16 academic hours per year (8 per semester), in addition to departmental and university service. While the primary language of instruction at Tel Aviv University is Hebrew, there is flexibility to teach some advanced courses in English. Candidates without sufficient Hebrew proficiency will be expected to achieve it within five years of appointment.
