Tenure-Track Academic Position in the Department of English Literature and American Studies

The Department of English Literature and American Studies and the Porter School of Cultural Studies at Tel Aviv University invite applications for a tenure track, open-rank position in American literature and culture. Candidates with a strong grounding in the literature, culture and history of the US, and whose work also includes a transnational, postcolonial or otherwise comparatist component, are particularly encouraged to apply.

A tenure-track position in our department involves a 2/2 yearly teaching load, made up of an introductory class and three undergraduate- and graduate-level courses in the lecturer’s fields of expertise. The successful candidate will be expected to teach an intro-level course in American literature and culture, while also engaging in interdisciplinary work with members of our sister departments in the School of Cultural Studies. In addition to demonstrating excellence in publication, teaching, advising and service, candidates for tenure will be required to apply for research grants and foster effective professional relationships with scholars and institutions abroad.

While teaching and research in the department are conducted exclusively in English, knowledge of Hebrew will eventually be required for the performance of service duties and long-term integration in the university.

Salary and employment conditions will conform to Tel Aviv University regulations. The appointment procedure will be carried out according to the rules and regulations of Tel Aviv University and is subject to the approval of the University’s authorities. The position will become effective starting from October 2024 and the academic rank will be determined towards the beginning of employment.

Suitable candidates should send a letter of application that includes a recap of past research achievements and future goals; an updated CV; samples of publications; course suggestions (or syllabi if previously taught) to:

Dr. Nir Evron, Chair, Department of English Literature and American Studies
by email: humenglish@tauex.tau.ac.il

The deadline of submission is 22.1.2024

Candidates who proceed to the second stage of evaluation will be asked to have three reference letters sent directly from senior scholars to the above address.

The Faculty of Humanities at Tel Aviv University is interested in increasing diversity, broadly defined, and in recruiting new faculty members representing a diverse multicultural society.

The position is open to all candidates. The appointment will be based on the candidate’s qualifications and the needs of the Department of English and American Studies. The Department, the School of Cultural Studies, the Faculty of Humanities and Tel Aviv University are not obligated to appoint any of the candidates who apply for this position.
