I have long been studying the effects of ischemia-reperfusion isolated perfused organs.  I have evidenced the pivotal role of oxygen free radicals in promoting such injuries, and provided therapeutic pathways, using on-shelf compounds, aiming at preventing or attenuating isolated organ or systemic repercussion of ischemia-reperfusion event.  My group has recently established evidence as to the role of these agents in propelling cytokines following chest blunt trauma.

ventions.  Indeed, gas insufflated into the peritoneum is a temporary event, which, however, may detriment organs, such as the kidney.  Modes of moderating the insufflation-associated damage or its prevention are currently under investigation.

Pain constitutes a physiological factor accompanying trauma, damage to the tissue or following surgical interventions.  While past theories suggested that opioids are the best compounds to be administered in order to attenuate and later eliminate such pain, we are now aware of the fact that such administration may rather generate resistance to morphine or even worsen the phenomenon of pain.  I have been among the first to demonstrate the beneficial role of ketamine, a long-standing, partly clinically abandoned, anesthetic, that when used in ultra-low doses would minimize resistance to postoperative morphine, block hyperalgesia that occurs after remifentanil, and also reduces the dose of morphine that is consumed in order to control postoperative pain.
