Bio: Vicki Myers Gamliel

Originally from the UK, I have an MSc in Health Psychology from Kings’ College London (joint with UCL), and a PhD in Public Health (Health Promotion) from Tel Aviv University.

After moving to Israel I collaborated on the Israel Study of First Myocardial Infarction in Tel Aviv University’s Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, focusing on secondary prevention for MI survivors, smoking, psychosocial risk factors and frailty.

Always interested in the field of tobacco control, I moved to the Department of Health Promotion to collaborate on Project Zero Exposure, an intervention to help reduce children’s exposure to tobacco smoke in smoking homes. I completed my PhD under the supervision of Prof Leah Rosen in the field of parental perceptions of children’s exposure, developing, piloting and validating a new measure, which was subsequently implemented in an RCT, with the aim of raising awareness of exposure in smoking parents and helping them to better protect their children.

I currently conduct research at the Gertner Institute of Epidemiology & Health Policy Research in two main fields – patient experience (including remote/digital treatment; and navigating the health system including scheduling appointments) and children's exposure to tobacco smoke. I am PI on several projects and hold grants from the Chief Scientist, Israel NIH and Justice Ministry. I develop and run patient surveys, and am part of a team developing an intervention through pediatricians to reduce children's exposure to tobacco smoke using biomarker feedback.

In the tobacco control field, I am also developing inserts for tobacco packs with health promotion messages.

I have over 50 peer-reviewed publications, including qualitative and quantitative research.
