Like other works on nature by Aristotle, the Physics is a diptych work, one part a general account of how to study nature, the other aa demonstrative treatise on change. The general account introduces the four causes and is applicable to all studies of nature.
 

The treatise on change is abstract and concerns what we could call perceptible magnitudes, that is bodies with properties involved in alteration, growth and diminution (taken as changes of size), and locomotion. Mostly notably absent in this sub-treatise is teleology, but even the form/matter distinction is used only in a restricted way. The classification of the principles for this treatise are those Aristotle lays out in the Posterior Analytics. In this way, books III-V constitude first principles and VI-VIII demonstrations.
