![]() | In this head CT scan with views above and below there is diffuse low attenuation characteristic for diffuse cerebral edema. The bright areas represent hemorrhage in the subarachnoid space. The lateral ventricles are effaced. These findings resulted from violent shaking of an infant, the so-called "shaken baby syndrome" in which extensive intracranial damage with subarachnoid and subdural bleeding along with cerebral damage and edema can be produced. |
