Life imitates ... magazine articles?

Considering I undoubtedly read this particular article well before Eitan and Nadav started playing The Sims, I certainly can't claim that they got there first. In February of 2000 Salon.com posted an article by Janelle Brown, Sims in the hands of an angry God. Among numerous thought provoking issues that she raises when considering the attraction that the game had on her, she writes:

Why is making a Sim clean his house more interesting, I have to wonder, than cleaning your own house?
And there you have it. A senior editor of a respected online magazine and a twelve year old, both happily doing things on the computer screen that they apparently do in real life only under duress.
