A different sort of game.

Hila, presently a first grader, apparently learned about word processing in school (suggesting, perhaps that some good things can actually happen in school). One day she came home and told me that she wanted me to set up the game where she types out words on the computer screen. I wasn't sure what it was she was referring to, but when I opened Word for her she immediately identified it as what she meant. She's started taking to (hunt and peck) typing with a vengeance, typing out short messages, birthday greetings, and even e-mail messages. At present, though she wants me to print out what she prepares, she only seems to be interested in the immediate keyboard-to-screen aspects of the program. She's not yet aware of the concept of saving (I do that for her) and changing font styles or sizes, or copying and pasting, don't yet mean anything to her. She is, however, delighted by the fact that what she types shows up on the screen (and that it can be printed) and if she identifies this as a game, well, I sort of have to happily agree.
