Another hypertextual conundrum.
Is "later" in this column really accurate? Perhaps I can claim that it's "farther down" in this column, though in that case I'd be referring to a link, and not to the content of the page that I've linked to. And at least according to the order in which these pages were written the "later" is actually quite a bit earlier - a page that, process-wise, I'd prepared early on in this column. As different asides took shape I realized that I was leading to the same thought from two different angles. And that's from the "writing" side. For all I know, the reader didn't feel an urge to click on the "earlier" link, but became curious from the "later" one.
While my bottom of the page links in these columns attempt to keep the reader more or less on track, the breadcrumbs (or orange peels) that can keep the reader from getting lost when the path becomes a bit confusing, seem to take some of the fun out of this sort of text.
