That happens too.

Panic can be helpful, but it's not always necessary. There are times when, well before the latest column is posted, or even written, I've already started mapping the next one out in my head, or even on paper or screen. But more often than I'd like I have to semi-frantically search for a topic. Sometimes, close to the last minute I'll settle on one about which I say to myself that it'll have to do. Happily, on some of these times I'll discover that it develops into a finished product that I'm very pleased with. When things aren't taking shape and it seems that I'm faced with one of those more desperate times I've got a little list - a "possible Boidem stuff" label in my mail. Turning to that list in a time of need has definitely come in handy, though over the years the best ideas there have already been written about, so that if I really need the aid of that label chances are good that I'm on the road to a mediocre column.
