I started giving presentations about various aspects of the internet and online
life at a time when dial-up modems were still standard ... as were also frequent
communications outages. I learned back then not to put my trust in communications
and on the expectation that I was only a click away from what I wanted to show.
It wasn't called the World Wide Wait back then for nothing. Paraphrasing a
lesson I learned from my father, until now I've
only very rarely strayed from the sound advice that if you want to show a page,
make sure you have it saved locally.
