Interferometry

In this experiment you will study photon interference using a Mach-Zehnder and a Michelson interferometer.

Objectives

In this experiment you will use photon interferometry techniques in two setups to preform the following:

  1. Verify energy conservation in the interferometer setup.
  2. Measure the wavelength of the laser source.
  3. Measure the index of refraction or the thickness of a solid sample.
  4. Quantify the difference in optical paths of the interferometer arms.
  5. Quantify the intensity modulation of the interferometer.
  6. Measure the index of refraction of a solution.
