The meeting in Riga was a great success with 94 participants from 17 countries. Two first prize poster awards from Joint Stock Company Grindeks were given to Santic Radmila (Salzburg, Austria) for the work Alternative splice variants of the galanin–like peptide gene and to Szabó Árpad (Pécs, Hungary) for the work Role of the capsaicin VR1/TRPV1 receptor in bleomycin–induced scleroderma in the mouse.

Three second prize awards were given to Sokołowska Paulina (Lodz, Poland) for the poster Effect on PACAP and related peptides on cAMP synthesis in C6 glioma cells, to Babjoniseva Aurika (Riga, Latvia) for the poster Distribution and concentration of vasoactive intestinal peptide ( VIP ) and substance P (SP) in bronchi of patients with mild and moderate bronchial asthma, and to Engström Mia (Turku, Finland)for the presentation Differential efficacies of somatostatin receptor agonists for G–protein activation and desensitization of the human somatostatin receptor subtype 4–mediated responses.

The ENC Riga meeting material will be published in the Sept/Oct 2005 issue of Neuropeptides (volume 39, issue 5).

In the business meeting we discussed the next meeting (s) location and suggestions were Miami, Ferrara, Budapest and Salzburg. There was a vote for Miami for next year (joint with the American Summer Neuropeptide Meeting). Ferrara and Salzburg and Budapest were voted for the following years (2007, 2008, 2009). The American Summer Neuropeptide Meeting will be invited to Salzburg.
