First Amendment to the United States Constitution

The First Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified along with the rest of the Bill of Rights in 1791. The amendment states that there will not be an established religion in the United States, while allowing free practice of religion, the freedom of speech and the press, the right to assemble, and the right to petition the government.
