The head CT scan above in "bone window" reveals a gunshot wound on the right that has struck the calvarium and resulted in bone fragments exending into the intracranial cavity. The density of the metal bullet scatters the x-rays ("beam hardening" artefact) in the left panel above. There is a pneumocephalus from air entering the cranial cavity. Below in "soft tissue window" can be seen the brain with effacement of the anterior right lateral ventricle. There is hemorrhage and edema into the widened scalp overlying the wound.
