During the angiogram a lower abdominal film reveals the placement of an inferior vena cava filter in order to prevent massive and potentially fatal pulmonary thromboembolism in a patient who had a prior episode of thromboembolism and who had a Doppler ultrasound of the lower extremities that revealed thromboses in leg veins.
