The plain film radiographic appearance of myositis ossificans can be more subtle, with a rounded focus of soft tissue calcification as in this case involving the upper outer arm. These lesions can mimic a malignant bone tumor, but they are a reactive process--a form of osseous metaplasia in response to trauma.
