Cells from the breast obtained by fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy or by excisional biopsy can be examined by flow cytometry. The presence of an increased proliferative rate and aneuploidy, as shown in the flow cytometric pattern of this breast carcinoma, suggest a worse prognosis.
