What's the fun of playing a computer game if you're not setting a record, if you're not getting your name up there in the top ten? This phenomenon is probably among the most problematic in game playing. At first you say to yourself "I'm going to allow myself two games or ten minutes, whichever is longest", and then, after two games that took eleven minutes the excuses begin:
Well, I only got to the third level, so it really doesn't count
or:
If the mouse hadn't been sticking I would have gotten one more level up, so I guess I have another game coming to me
Or any one of a number of similar excuses, all of which are destined to keep me playing the game at least half an hour longer than originally intended.
