Larry Matthews was an investigative reporter who decided to investigate child pornography on the internet. In December of 1996 he was accused of possession of child pornography, a charge he didn't deny. He claimed, however, that he had accumulated the materials in question so that he could prepare his stories. The courts, however, didn't permit him to explain the context of his possession, and he was found guilty and sentenced to 18 months in prison which he began serving in 1999.
