One small possibility.


There is one rather logical explanation. It's even rather simple. My guess is that Jakob Nielsen's oft-quoted (and not only by me) claim about the way people read web sites holds for blogs as well. If people really have to read all the blogs that they're linking to, then they're going to be pretty busy, with hardly enough time left over to write. But if all they do is skim the page as they would a web page, then a blog, designed to be to writing what skimming is to reading, even becomes an advantage.
