Time for a new metaphor.

No question about it, the concept of ink drying just doesn't seem to fit the internet, though for most of us and our pens it hasn't been an accurate description of swiftness for a very long time. Yes, it can still happen that my hand rests on the page and smudges the ink, but the ink in most of today's pens dries almost immediately making this an outdated metaphor even well before the internet.

Still, it seems to make sense that we find something new to express that feeling of Jack Robinson. I've thought perhaps of before the electrons stood still in the tube which isn't very accurate scientifically, but still transmits the idea in question fairly clearly. Readers with suggestions for a better, more technologically up to date, but also scientifically accurate, metaphor are invited to send them to me.
