Please! Just don't help us!!

My mother vacated the house I grew up in about four years ago. When she moved she was already well into her 80s and needed the aid of my brother and sister, who live in the States, to help make the move. I wasn't looking forward to a trip to the States at the time, but I still felt an obligation to offer to help out. But the response to my offer was a resounding "NO!", with the added curt explanation of "all we need is the help of somebody who doesn't know how to throw anything out!". Even my own family recognizes me as a bona fide pack rat.
