What's so bad about a little bit of confusion?

I learned somewhere that technical writing schools teach their students that no sentence should have more than 14 words, and no paragraph more than two sentences. I suppose that if you're trying to instruct someone in the workings of a specialized tool writing in such a manner might make sense. But I haven't been taken captive. I can divulge more information than just my name, rank and serial number (what? twice in the same column?). And frankly, if after reading a column or two someone feels moved to ask about their author: Who's that?, I'm far from convinced that the correct answer is a link to a page that contains a short biography. Perhaps a more fitting answer would be the persona that gets projected over the ever-developing whole of these columns. In other words, pick a column, any column, and keep reading.
