Sorry, that's simply the association that came to mind.

I admit it, I don't know if that title was on target or not, but it's the title that caught on in my mind. I have a recollection of a childhood story about a kid who doesn't want to eat his vegetables. His parents tell him that it's not spinach, but something else (which something else? I simply draw a blank on that one), but the kid isn't convinced. He answers: "I say it's spinach and the hell with it". When trying to think of a title for the story about the kid who teaches his dog to speak, even if in the end the dog can't say anything, I thought that there was a similarity between the story and the title. Is there? I doubt that it really matters.

It is, however, interesting to note that the line is from a pleasant 1932 song by Irving Berlin, of the same title. Which came first? Who cares?
