We're covered this territory before.

I've written before on the various topics around which you can choose to join a virtual community. Though back then (long ago) I admitted that I try to check out what "communities" are available every few weeks, it's been a very long time since I last peeked at what was there. Perhaps it's simply a case of getting tired of doing this. It's a pretty good guess that there isn't much that's new to discover. But of course in order to write this I can't not take another look.

Excite's communities are now called clubs. I have to admit that I prefer this rather low-keyed name to its more pompous predecessor. Though there doesn't seem to be a simple way of getting an accurate number of the clubs presently available, it seems that the number of clubs has continued to grow. And there seem to be a lot more people in some of the more successful clubs. But on the whole this still seems to be a case of bus, or waiting-room, communities.
