Particularly in light of a recent study, an examination of the preferability of search over filing (at least from my, apparently not backed-up by research, perspective) is ripe for a column here. It almost worked its way into this column, ultimately getting only a passing mention (similar to this one). It seems that this time I succeeded in closing the door on it and blocking its entrance. I've examined the topic in the past but it seems to again be raising its head. Even if I'm not convinced that there's much new on the topic that merits examination there's a good chance that in the not too distant future I'll be doing that. But ... not this time.
