If I thought that back then ...

Today, with computers in our pockets, and on our wrists, and perhaps even inside us, it's pretty much impossible to imagine living without them. Over ten years ago I was already asking to what extent they were becoming extensions of ourselves. But even when a computer was still a machine that sat on a desk, and could hardly be considered to have much of a personality, I was already writing about how they'd become part of the family. Today they may still not have personalities (though that also seems to be on the way) but as their physical presence has diminished, the functions they perform for us have increased. Back then, however, we were realizing how fully they were becoming integrated into our daily lives, and this process (and our observing of it) made that "Boidem type stuff". Today, even if The Internet of Things isn't really yet a household word, there seems nothing left to "realize", or at the very least be amazed about. In other words - why write about this?
