An integral part of the operating system.
File compression programs have been around for many years, and even as storage
capacity continues to increase, many of us still have use for them. Considering
that some very powerful programs of this sort are available for free, there's
probably little reason to purchase one, but for a number of years already Windows
has included a compression feature as part of the operating system. Though these
third party programs continue to develop and add new features, for most of us,
what Windows offers is more than what we need. We witness this process frequently
enough to suggest that the best that companies that develop tools of this sort
can hope for is to be bought out.
