It was a tough call, but ...

As the title of this column suggests, at least at one point in its development, it was conceived of as a purposeful hodge-podge of links that I visited as I worked on this column - or perhaps of links that I visited while trying to get other work done, that got put aside because the only place where they seemed to have relevance to anything was in a column of this sort. As I continued to write and organize this column, however, I realized that what I clicked on, or where I clicked to, wasn't really what concerned me. Instead, I wanted to devote this column to a celebration of the act of clicking. The places I've been and the people I've seen were much less important than the journey. When this became clear to me, I understood that there was really no reason to note where I'd been, even if that was what I'd brought my readers to expect. If this column has succeeded in rekindling the sense of wonder that once accompanied our clicks, then I'm sure that any readers can easily paste their own "and that"s into the title.
