Location of the conference
The lectures will take place in Melamed auditorium which is room 006 in the Shenkar building for physics, Tel Aviv university:
Also see the Tel Aviv university
map.
From the main entrance to Shenkar building, take a right in the long hall. After 10 meters, Melamed auditorium will be directly on your left.
Shuttle bus
There will be a shuttle bus from the conference hotel (the Carlton Tel Aviv) to Tel Aviv university leaving every morning of September 3-7 (the return time will be announced during the conference).
Please be at the lobby of the hotel at 8:20am. The bus will depart at 8:30 sharp!
On Sunday September 3rd, one of our graduate students, Peleg Michaeli, will be at the hotel from 8am, to help you find the shuttle bus' location. You can find Peleg's picture here.
Restaurants in Tel Aviv university (for lunch)
There is a good selection of cafeterias offering warm food (including a good vegan restaurant!) located in the
Sharett building for education:
Getting to Tel Aviv from the airport
From the Ben Gurion International Airport:
By taxi: takes about 20-40 minutes (depending on traffic) and costs about 150 NIS. During rush hours (Sunday to Thursday, 7:00-10:00) consider taking the train.
By train (and taxi): The train takes about 15 minutes from station to station and costs 12 NIS. The University is a 5 minutes walk from the "University station". The hotel area and town center are a 10-15 minutes taxi drive from "Tel Aviv Center - Savidor" station which costs 20-30 NIS. Israel railway website is -

Getting around Tel Aviv
Taxis are widely available throughout the city, you can stop them in the street or use the
Gett app.
Always ask the driver to put the meter on: don't attempt negotiating for a price, Israeli taxi drivers are better than you at haggling.
Public transportation: You can check routes and timetables in the Dan (the local bus company) website (unfortunately, only some of it is in English):
http://www.dan.co.il/english, and in the Egged (another bus company) website:
http://www.egged.co.il/Eng/.

Food recommendations
Walking distance from the Carlton:
- Halevatini. Middle eastern food, really close to the hotel, Ben Yehuda St 170.
- Barbunia. Terrific fish and seafood. You can sit at the restaurant (at Ben-Yehuda St 192) or at the bar (at Ben-Yedhuda 163) which serves the same food (note that people will smoke at the bar). Make sure to order the salads plate, it's fabulous. This is my favorite fish restaurant in Tel Aviv.
- The best Falafel in Tel Aviv is a very contentious topic. I carefully recommend HaKosem (Shlomo ha-Melekh St 1. On Fridays closes at 4pm, on Saturday closed all day) and Falafel Frishman (Frishman St 42. Closed on Fri/Sat).
- You probably heard and had Falafel, but have you ever had Sabih? If not, drop everything and go get it. Don't be fooled by its mundane description (pita stuffed with deep fried eggplant and hard boiled egg), it is heavenly. The best place is Sabih Frishman (Frishman St 42. Closed Fri/Sat)
- Some fine shish-kebabs can be found in Abu Zaki (Ben Yehuda St 113).
- If you crave some really nice meat, the Meat Bar is mmy favorite place for steaks, lamb and whatnot. Prepare your credit card for a hit though.
Further away:
- Some really nice authentic Hummus can be found at Abu Hassan in Jaffa. This place has two locations relatively close to each other: 1 Ha' Dolfin Street and Shivtei Israel 14. This is not a dinner place.
- The Carmel market (Ha'Carmel St.) has a bunch of local foods and flavors. My personal favorites for a sit-down dinner are Habasta (HaShomer St 4. Make a reservation!) and M25 (Simtat HaCarmel 30).
