Our department is one of the largest of its kind in Israel, offering a variety of courses and research opportunities in the field of plant sciences.  The faculty members work together in a dynamic and collaborative community aimed at furthering our understanding of plant biology and its implications in biotechnology and the environment.

The department utilizes the diverse research facilities provided by the Manna Center for Plant Biosciences, Tel Aviv University Botanical Gardens with its unique root lab, and the Institute for Cereal Crops Research. The department also leads a center on Plant Adaptations to the Changing Environment through the Israeli Center of Research Excellence (I-CORE).  The research laboratories of the department are open to postdoctoral researchers, Ph.D. and M.Sc. students and undergraduate student projects.

The thriving research in our department is matched by our commitment to high-level coursework.  The faculty members are active in the classroom, teaching all levels of coursework from undergraduate to graduate as well as specialized electives. The department offers advanced laboratory classes including molecular biology, biotechnology, phytopathology, photosynthesis and medicinal plants, in addition to field-oriented courses in endemic and worldwide plant ecosystems.
