Farewells are never easy but this time is was twice as difficult.
Dr. Keren Baraness-Bachar has left an impressive legacy of hard work and excellence in research behind her. Throughout her years in the lab she worked tirelessly to analyze multitudes of results, set up complex assays, and stay on top of the latest methods in our field. Her talented baking and constant smile will be sorely missed around here.
Dr. Ron Jachimowicz? spent only two and a half years in our lab but managed to make an immense impact, both as a researcher and as a friend. His family very quickly became a part of the Shiloh lab wider family and we wish them all much success in their next chapter of their life back in Germany.

We bade farewell to two interns who spent the Summer with us - Tomer Tur-Kaspa and Sonya Oshchepkova from the US. We enjoyed having you with us! Here are some photos highlighting their visit.
Prof. Ron Prywes who was a visiting professor in our lab, completed his Sabbatical term and returned to Columbia University in New York.
Our graduate student Marina Alfo presented a poster at the Benzon Symposium on Genome Instability in the Nervous System in Copenhagen, Denmark.
In August Yossi left the lab (physically, but not in spirit!) to spend a short Sabbatical in New York.
July 2016:
Ayelet Star completed her PhD studies and we wish her much success in her future position in a high tech company.
Congratulations to Sapir on her acceptance to the prestigious Roche Continents program. Sapir will spend a week in Salzburg, Austria at the time of the Salzburg Festival, together with many other young scientists interested in science and art, who were selected for this unique program.
Congratulations to Efrat and Amos, on the birth of their firstborn son, Yuval. He is truly Mr. Marvelous!
June 2016:

Hagit Benyamini-Bigger submitted her outstanding PhD thesis on ATM's role in the neurodegeneration of the Nbs1-deficient cerebellum, which was approved with flying colours. Hagit has moved on to work as a Medical Science Liaison at Sanofi-Aventis and we wish her much success in her future career. Here are photos from Hagit's tasty farewell party.
We are pleased to welcome Prof. Ron Prywes, who has joined our group as a visiting professor from Columbia University. Ron is investigating the oncogenic potential of genes encoding DNA damage response players.
We warmly welcome Bhavana Velpula who has joined us as a Ph.D. student from Hyderabad, India.
Another exciting birth announcement: Mazal Tov to Keren and Sharon on the newest addition to the Baranes-Bachar family: Tamar Ruthi is the beautiful younger sister of Alon and Shachar.

Lea Shochat left us in November, being the first member of our group to retire! Lea contributed much of her knowledge and skills to various mouse projects in the lab and will be greatly missed on a both professional and social level. We all celebrated together at Herbert Samuel restaurant in Herzeliya and the photos are in this album.

In August Michal Gavish-Isaacson moved on to continue her MD-PhD studies after completing her PhD research in our lab. Michali studied the role of a new player in the interface between genome stability and RNA metabolism. We wish her much success and satisfaction in her career as a medical doctor. Our work on the COP9 signalosome was accepted for publication in Nucleic Acids Research. Hearty congratulations to the first author, Michal Meir, whose thesis constitutes a major portion of this paper, and to Yael, who led this project for many years, persistently and with extreme dedication, by mentoring several generations of students and fellows, through cellular, molecular and mouse
work.
This month we held a very successful joint lab meeting with the lab of Prof. Nabieh Ayoub from the Technion. Students from both labs presented their work and fruitful discussions ensued, further strengthening our interaction. See photo album here.
January 2015:
Yossi was announced as the 2015 recipient of the Olav Thon Prize in Natural Sciences and Medicine, together with Prof. Judith Campisi of the Buck Institute for Aging Research in California. The distinguished honor will be awarded in Oslo this coming March.
Our lab was paid a visit by the medical and social team from the National A-T Clinic at the Edmond Safra Children's Hospital, and the volunteers of the Israeli A-T Society. Prof. Shiloh shared with the guests the latest insights about A-T research from our lab and around the world. See photo album here
December 2014:
The Shiloh family had a new addition: Yossi’s first grandson, Ido (son of Ruthy and Ziv), was born. Ido is not sure yet whether he will pursue a career in science, as his grandfather and mother have done.
August 2014:
We welcomed Dr. Ron Jachimowicz to our lab, a new arrival from Cologne, Germany. Ron will be joining the ubiquitin branch of our lab for his post-doctoral training. We say in Hebrew - Baruch Haba u’Behatzlacha!
After 8 years of tireless dedication, Dr. Adva Levy-Barda is leaving our lab and moving on to a position at the Sheba Medical Center. Adva's can do attitude and positive nature will be sorely missed among our ranks. Her willingness to lend a helping hand and her trademark pearls of wisdom have left a huge mark. Upon Yossi's return from his Sabbatical year in New York, we set off for 3 days away in magical Zikhron Ya'akov for a Lab Retreat. Since a picture is worth a thousand words, it is best to view the gorgeous photos in the album to get an idea of what it was like.
We also welcomed Nelly Levinton to our team as a new graduate student. We wish her lots of enjoyable and productive research with us!
November 2013:
This month we bid farewell to Daniel Baumel who completed his Master's studies with us and is moving to live the Galilee. We wish him and his wife, Naama, all the best in their future endeavors!
We recently welcomed three new project students: Rotem Granit, Timna Cohen and Ben Vardi. They will join our team studying the neurodegenerative aspects of A-T and work in the animal facility.
We thank Gali Zach who has just left us, for devoting her project time to helping in the same project. Good luck to all!

Congratulations to Sapir, our PhD student, upon receiving the Tel Aviv University Training Fellowship Abroad (TFA). Sapir will spend 3 months in ETH Zurich, Switzerland working in the laboratory of Prof. Ruedi Aebersold on her project on phosphoproteomic dynamics following DNA damage.

We have two newlyweds in the lab! A big "Mazal Tov" to both Hagit Benyamini and Daniel Baumel on their recent weddings. Wishing you much happiness on the joyous occasion.
Our lab participated in the DNA@60 conference in honor of the 60th Anniversary of the Discovery of the DNA Double Helix. The conference took place at the Technion in Haifa, Israel, and included a tour of the beautiful Bahá'í Gardens. Photos here.

We had many reasons to celebrate this month, which warranted a special evening gathering at the Shiloh residence. We congratulated Aya, Yaniv, Adva and Hava on the approval of their doctoral theses, as well as Gilad on his new position as head of the Inter-departmental equipment facility at our medical school. This provided the perfect opportunity to farewell Yossi and Shoshi, before they embarked on their third Sabbatical year - this time in New York. May it be a productive and enjoyable journey! This month we say farewell to Dr. Gilad Mass, who has been a Senior Researcher in our lab for many years. We wish him much success in his new job, as head of the Inter-Departmental Equipment Facility at our medical school.

We began August with another special lab seminar, this time with guest speakers from outside the lab. We were delighted to hear Hanan Khouri, from Nabieh Ayoub’s lab at the Technion talk to us about her PhD thesis results. Another special guest was Dr. Yaron Galanty who flew in from the UK to share with us his work in the lab of Steve Jackson at The Gurdon Institute. Yaron, a past member of our lab, spent very fruitful two days with us. He and us were catching up on both science and pleasure.
June 2012:
This month we moved one of our rooms into a new laboratory. It is freshly renovated (thanks mainly to Gilad), newly-equipped, and ready for action.
May 2012:
This month we held our third very successful Group Study Day, with two in-depth review lectures on the subjects "Ubiquitin and the DDR" (given by Keren Baranes-Bachar) and "Chromatin modifications and the DDR" (given by Ayelet Star). We used this opportunity to get a new group photo.
In May we welcomed a new researcher to our team, Dr. Anat Shriki, who will be investigating the interface between the DDR and the RNA processing arena.
April 2012:

Congratulations to Adva on being awarded the prestigious FEBS Young Scientist Program (YSP) Travel Award to attend the 37th FEBS Congress and YSP Meeting in Spain in September 2012. Adva will present her work on the involvement of the PA28gamma protein in the DNA damage.

Yossi gave a special lecture at the International A-T Workshop, ATW2012, in
New Delhi, India. His talk was entitled "On the neurological phenotype of A-T".
After spending 5 fruitful months in our lab, we farewell Marianna Borecka,
who was a visiting international student in our lab, through the WUJS
program. Marianna took part in the TRIREME project and worked on the
analysis of transcriptome and proteome dynamics following the induction of DNA damage. It was a pleasure having her in the lab, and we wish her good
luck in her future adventures!
January 2012:
This month we say goodbye to our fellow researchers Eyal David and Dr.
Arnon Paz. Eyal and Arnon were responsible for developing and curating the SPIKE knowledge base, established as a collaboration between our lab and the bioinformatics lab of Prof. Ron Shamir. We wish them both luck in their future endeavors.
We send our warmest wishes to Keren who had a new baby girl, named Shachar

Congratulations to Dr. Lilach Moyal on the acceptance of her doctoral thesis! Since completing the work on her Ph.D. in our lab, Lilach has moved on to be a senior scientist in a research lab at the Felsenstein Medical Research Center, Beilinson Hospital.

We are very proud of Yossi for receiving this year's honourable Israel Prize from the Prime Minister and President of Israel, on Israel's Independence Day. Congratulations to Lilach Moyal, our recent graduate, on the publication of her paper on Histone H2B Monoubiquitylation in Molecular Cell.
In February our lab joined 2000 Israeli researchers at the 6th FISEB Ilanit conference in Eilat. Our poster presenters were Hagit, Hava (represented by Gilad) and Arnon.
2009-2010

In September, two dear students – Rami Khosravi and Maayan Salton-Morgenstern – both completed their PhD studies in our lab. Rami is now senior researcher in Compugen Co. and Maayan began postdoctoral training with Dr. Tom Misteli at NIH. We wish them both much success.
In August we welcomed two new students to the lab, Ayelet Star, and Michal Meir.
In August, another addition to the younger generation was born. Mazal Tov to Keren on the birth of little Alon!
Hava's abstract was selected for oral presentation in the A-T Workshop ATW2010 in Redondo Beach, CA.
Maayan's work on Matrin 3 and SFPQ/NONO was published in Cell Cycle.
In March, two new additions to the lab’s younger generation were born on the same day! We congratulate Ayelet K. and Michal, and welcome Maayan and Neta, respectively.
In February, members of our lab presented 10 abstracts in the recent meeting of the Israeli Genome Stability and DNA repair Forum at Ben Gurion university.
In April the lab went on a field trip to the ancient city of Tzippori, located in the central Galilee region. We saw the "Mona Lisa of the Galilee", had good food and great time, and took many photos, some of which can be seen here.
Best wishes from everybody to Lilach Moyal on finishing her Ph.D. thesis and accepting a new job as Researcher in the

Congratulations to Hava on receiving the second best poster award at the 1st Meeting of the Israel Society for Cancer Research!
Congratulations to Maayan on the selection of her abstract for platform presentation at the meeting of the FEBS Forum of Young Scientists that took take place in Prague in July in conjunction with the annual FEBS meeting. Maayan was also awarded a travel fellowship to attend the meeting.
Maayan's work was also selected for presentation at the International Meeting on Protein Complexes in DNA Metabolism that was held in Trieste , Italy, in May. The Joan and Jaime Constantiner Institute of Molecular Genetics of Tel Aviv University granted her a Constantiner Travel Fellowship to attend this meeting.
Congratulations to Keren on receiving an EMBO Short-Term Fellowship for several months of collaborative work in Dr. Tom Misteli 's laboratory at the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland .
