Pinchas Agmon has been a member of Kibbutz Ma'agan Michael since 1954. He has spent most of his years on the kibbutz working in instruction and education. In 1972 he took part in creating a regional high school for kibbutzim in the Hof Carmel region, and was its principal for seven years. This school adopted the educational tenets of John Dewey and was designated as an experimental school by the Department of Education.

Alongside his work in education, Agmon continued his academic training at the Tel Aviv University. His doctoral research focused on the Soviet school system in the first decade after the revolution.

Dr. Agmon taught Russian and Soviet History for ten years at Oranim, a kibbutz institution affiliated with the University of Haifa. He concentrated his research on the NEP period and on the process of change in the USSR due to the policy of Perestroika.

In 1991 he jointed the Educational Center of the Ghetto Fighters Holocaust Museum and established its Russian Department. In his capacity as head of this department, Agmon worked on the documentation of the Holocaust in the Soviet Union. As part of this research, a joint project with the Fortunoff Institute of Yale University was conducted in the killing fields of Ukraine and Belorussia, where Holocaust survivors were interviewed and filmed. A collection of testimonies by Holocaust survivors from Ukraine was published in Russian in 1994. A further collection of testimonies will soon be published in Hebrew.

In 1995 Dr. Agmon became involved in a research project at the Cummings Center dealing with changes in instruction of Soviet History in present-day Russia. The project will be conducted jointly with research institutes in Russia.
