"Many Body Effects in Artificial Atoms"

Dr. Yuval Oreg
Condensed Matter Physics, Weizmann Institute

Artificial atoms are small metallic particles in the nanometer scale. We will discuss recent theoretical and experimental developments about the role of spin and electron-electron interactions in these atoms. In contrast to natural atoms, we can control the artificial atoms' size and symmetry (or its absence). In addition, it is possible to connect them to leads and measure their conductance and other properties. What is the influence of the atoms' symmetry on their many body properties? How do the contacts influence them? We will discuss these questions and more.
