"Astro-Statistics: from Cosmology to Exo-Planets"

Prof. Ofer Lahav
Astrophysics Group, University College London

Astronomy is facing now more than ever before the challenge of contrasting large data sets with advanced models. The talk will discuss the pros and cons of Bayesian and Frequentist methods, with six 'real-life' examples: cosmological parameters, photometric redshifts, neutrino masses, galaxy shapes and classification, exo-planets and the Anthropic principle.

Host: Dr. Ehud Nakar, x5385
