The institute's slide archive,
containing nearly 20,000 slides, is one of our most important teaching
aides. In archaeology, projected visual images are also a crucial part
of public lectures and scientific presentations. Slides are contained
in specially made drawers, organized hierarchically by region, country,
site and artifact category. The collection has also been catalogued digitally
in thumbnail images with searchable annotation. Slides have not yet been
scanned at a resolution sufficient for classroom projection. This is a
project for the future. The archive is available to our students and faculty
and may be used by outsiders with permission from the archive director.
The archive does not extend publication rights, which must be sought from
the excavator or artist.
