Reaction to the APS letter about the Israel-Gaza war

On Oct. 13, 2023, the APS Board Executive Cimmittee issued a letter, supporting "scientists in Israel and Gaza". This letter seems to express a full symmetry between the two sides of this conflict. Here is an updated letter which I sent to the APS board on Oct 15.
  • Dear APS officials, I am deeply annoyed by the symmetry reflected in your message, between Hamas and Israel. On Oct 7th the Hamas sent thousands of terrorists into Israel. They burned civilian homes with the families in them (including children whose bodies are still difficult to identify). They killed parents in front of their children, and beheaded children in front of their parents. They raped women and cut parts of their bodies. They killed more than 1300 people, including Israeli Arabs and Jews. More Jews were killed on that day than ever in a single day since the Holocaust. Ideed, many Holocaust survivors draw similarities to what the Nazis did in Europe. In proportion, this event was worse that the El-kaida attack on 9-11. However, the APS did not issue such a symmetrical letter after that attack. Hamas is clearly even less human annd more cruel than El Kaida and ISIS - both of which were destroyed by the US!
  • Among the dead were the senior physicist Dr. Sergey Gredeskul (of Ben Gurion University) and his wife Victoria, who were brutally murdered in their home in Ofakim. Being the spokesmen for all physicists, I think you should have mentioned this. The Gredeskuls immigrated from Kharkiv, Ukraine, to Israel in the 1991. Only recently did he talk to me about his friends being killed in Kharkiv - what a fate! Hamas also captured more than 199 civilians, including small children, women, and old fragile unhealthy people, preventing them from using essential medications and torturing them on the way to Gaza. We have no information on these people now.
  • In contrast, Israel is now fighting in Gaza to destroy the ISIS-like Hamas regime, whose atrocities are the worst seen in many years. Israel has hundreds of lawyers, who accompany the army and preserve international laws. This happens as Hamas uses civilians as human shields for their camps and missiles (which they send to civilian homes all over Israel). In contrast, Israel has asked civilians in Gaza to evacuate before bombing the Hamas military establishments (which are hidden among civilian homes). Israel will surely offer humanitaria help to iocent civilias in Gaza, once such help is offered to the Israelis held by the Hamas.
  • Is there symmetry between these two sides? Israel is a democratic country protecting its citizens, while Hamas is an un-elected terrorist organization which prevents the Gaza citizens from having a free and flourishing society - investing all the international donations in military equipment.
