At higher magnification, cervical dysplasia is demonstrated. Note the disorderly development of the cells from the basement membrane upward at the right, compared to normal maturation at the left. At the right, the full thickness of the epithelium is involved by the disordered, dysplastic process, consistent with a grade of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) III.
