In some "floppy infants" the cause is a rare congenital myopathy. Several of these myopathies have been described, named by the characteristic histologic feature. Clinical findings include hypotonia, muscle weakness, joint contractures (arthrogryposis), and a non-progressive to slowly progressive course. This trichrome stain highlights rod-shaped inclusions known as nemaline rods. This is a case of nemaline myopathy. |
