Schwannomas involve peripheral nerves. The vestibular portion of the 8th cranial nerve is a common example, as shown here in the cerebellopontine angle on the right. The intracranial location means that, though the lesion is histologically benign, it can produce problems from compression and mass effect (a common problem here is unilateral deafness) and be tricky for a neurosurgeon to remove.
