White Blood Cell Case Studies

CASE 1: Normal Peripheral Smears

(Click here to return to the case)
These are normal peripheral blood smears. The best area to study the morphology of blood cells is towards the feather edge where the red cells are barely touching each other. Using low power (10X objective) study the type of white blood cells present. With experience, you can actually perform a differential count with this power. This objective is also good for picking up immature white cells (blasts). Use the 40X and 100 X (oil) objectives to study the white blood cell, red blood cell, and platelet morphology in detail.
