Further History (Valerie):

Valerie notes decreased fetal movement at 34 weeks gestation. She is admitted to the hospital. An emergent ultrasound shows fetal cardiac activity, but the rate is 80 beats/min. An emergent cesarean section is performed.

A 4250 gm baby consistent in size for 34 weeks is delivered. The baby has spontaneous respirations, and the heart rate is 130 beats/min. An hour after delivery the baby exhibits seizure activity. The baby's oxygen saturation is 95% by oximetry. A heelstick is performed and the baby's hematocrit is 44% and glucose 23 mg/dL.

Further History (Vickie):

Robert gets a call from the school nurse. Vickie collapsed in the classroom. She was not injured. Her blood glucose was 25 mg/dL.
