Further History:
The baby is delivered by cesarean section at 36.5 weeks gestational age. Celeste receives IV zidovudine during the procedure. The Apgar scores for the baby are 8 and 10 at 1 minute and 5 minutes. The baby weighs 3010 gm.
Celeste and Mike, after studying information about HIV infection, are not making any major changes in their lives. They will be using barrier precautions for sexual intercourse. They both admit to having had several sexual partners with unprotected sexual intercourse prior to their marriage, and are not engaging in any finger-pointing, since that is now useless.
They want to know if the baby is infected with HIV.
