This baby demonstrates the facial features of trisomy 21 (Down syndrome) with downslanting palbebral fissures. Children with Down syndrome are placid, happy, loving children. However, they tend to have additional internal congenital anomalies, particularly congenital heart disease. If they live into adolescence or young adulthood, they may develop leukemia. If they live to age 30 or 40 they will develop Alzheimer disease.
