In the wall of the vagina is Bartholin's gland, which produces mucinous secretions. The duct to this gland can become obstructed, leading to cystic glandular enlargement with inflammation with infection, producing pain and discomfort. A Bartholin's cyst can reach several centimeters in size. Seen here is the cyst, with remaining adjacent normal glands.
