Compare the the thenar eminence of the left hand with that of the right hand and note that it is not as prominent on the right. This is the result of median nerve entrapment at the flexor retinaculum, leading to carpal tunnel syndrome. The patient had numbness and tingling for years involving the thumb and first two fingers. This was the result of a repetitive stress injury (typing) but there are other causes, such as amyloid deposition.
